What to look for in vacuums

Start with how you clean. A cordless stick vacuum is light and quick to grab, and many convert to a handheld for stairs, cars and furniture. Check how long the battery runs and whether you can swap it. A robot vacuum cleans on its own; some also mop, adjust suction to the dirt they detect, or empty themselves into a station so you rarely touch the bin.

Then think about your home. With pets, look for a model made for pet hair. With allergies, a HEPA filter helps trap fine dust, and bagless models save buying bags but need regular emptying. If spills and coarse debris are common, a wet and dry vacuum handles both. If noise bothers you, look for a quiet model.
