What to look for in networking

Start with the space you need to cover. A single router can be enough for a smaller home. For larger homes or several floors, a mesh system with multiple units in one pack spreads the signal more evenly. Decide whether you want the newest Wi-Fi standard or the extra high-frequency band, which can be faster and less crowded when devices are nearby. Tri-band and quad-band models handle many devices streaming at once.

Next, think about setup and extras. Check whether you need a built-in DSL modem, faster wired ports for quick downloads or local storage, or a USB port for a drive or printer. Access points can be mounted on a ceiling or wall, powered through the network cable, or made weatherproof for outdoor use. Some devices can also be managed centrally from the cloud, connect landline phones or run smart home devices.
