Is bikeman legit?
Mostly. HasTrust rates bikeman Mixed (60/100), checked 2026-10-14: You pay return shipping, and refunds on free-shipped orders are reduced by Bikeman's original shipping cost; Bikeman reserves the right to charge a restocking fee on any return; Installed or used items cannot be returned.
Bikeman.com looks like a genuine, long-running bike shop based in Woolwich, Maine. It has been in business since 1976 and holds an A+ BBB rating with no complaints closed in the last three years. It lists a physical address, a toll-free phone and text line, an email address and opening hours, and it publishes a 30-day return policy. The main caveats are its strict return rules: you pay return shipping, a restocking fee is possible, and the cost of free shipping is deducted from refunds. Some products ship from suppliers rather than its own stock, and one ResellerRatings reviewer complained about out-of-stock items.
What we measured
- ✓Domain registered 30+ years ago
- ✓On the public web since 1998 (Internet Archive)
- ✓Valid HTTPS encryption (certificate by Google Trust Services)
Why this score?
✓ Pros
- Established business, founded in 1976 and incorporated in Maine in 1981
- BBB A+ rating with 0 complaints closed in the last 3 years
- Free standard shipping on qualifying orders over $100 to the lower 48 US states
- Large catalog of more than 60,000 SKUs, plus a price match policy
⚠ Cons
- You pay return shipping, and refunds on free-shipped orders are reduced by Bikeman's original shipping cost
- Bikeman reserves the right to charge a restocking fee on any return
- Installed or used items cannot be returned
- Some items are non-returnable because of distributor policy
- Just-in-time inventory: many items are not physically in stock and may be delayed
- Complete bikes arrive partially disassembled and need some assembly
- At least one ResellerRatings reviewer called it a scam and said it took payment for parts it did not have in stock. This appears related to its just-in-time inventory model, and other reviews there are positive.
- Several unrelated businesses share the 'Bikeman' name (a Swedish Harley-Davidson dealer, a California repair shop, a freight company). Make sure you are on bikeman.com.
Why switch: A large retailer with a broad selection of bike parts and generally simpler returns, if Bikeman's restocking-fee and return-shipping terms concern you.
A major US retailer selling basic bike parts and accessories, with widely available in-store returns.
