The F/A-18, produced by McDonnell Douglas (later acquired by Boeing), is a versatile multirole fighter that has been in service with the United States Navy and Marine Corps since the 1980s. The Blue Angels selected the F/A-18 Hornet in 1986 as their primary aircraft, replacing the A-4 Skyhawk, and it has since become synonymous with precision flying and breathtaking aerobatic displays. The F/A-18 Hornet is a supersonic, all-weather carrier-capable fighter jet with the capability to perform a wide range of missions. It is equipped with advanced avionics, radar systems, and a powerful engine that enables it to excel in air-to-air and air-to-ground missions. The Blue Angels' F/A-18s undergo specific modifications to enhance their aerobatic performance, including the addition of a smoke system that releases vibrant trails during their spectacular maneuvers. While the F/A-18 is not a dedicated combat aircraft for conflicts, the Blue Angels' performances serve as a testament to the aircraft's exceptional capabilities and the skill of its pilots. The Blue Angels showcase the F/A-18's agility, precision, and speed at air shows around the world, thrilling audiences and inspiring future aviators.
