Looking for an honest HOKA Anacapa 2 Mid GTX review? HasTrust rates this waterproof day-hiking boot Trusted at 95/100, praising its top-tier cushioning and comfort. Just note it's built for well-maintained or moderate trails rather than rugged technical terrain, and the fit can run narrow.
What we measured
The HOKA Anacapa 2 Mid GTX is an excellent, highly cushioned day hiking boot for well-maintained or moderate trails. While it offers top-tier comfort and waterproof performance, it is not designed for rugged, technical off-trail terrain where its soft midsole and extended heel design can be liabilities. It is a solid choice for hikers prioritizing comfort over heavy-duty support, though potential buyers should check the fit, as it can feel narrow for some feet.

Pros
- Extremely comfortable with generous cushioning for long miles on maintained trails
- Excellent waterproof protection from Gore-Tex liner
- Lightweight and flexible design feels natural and supportive out of the box
- Strong traction on wet surfaces due to Vibram Megagrip outsole
Cons
- Extended SwallowTail heel can get caught between rocks on technical terrain
- Soft EVA foam in the midsole is susceptible to damage on sharp or rocky ground
- Not ideal for heavy backpacking or high-load carrying
- Fit can be narrow for some users; limited wide width availability compared to other models
- Gore-Tex membrane can make feet warm in hot, dry conditions
⚠ Red flags
- Stock is becoming scarce as of mid-2026, indicating the model may be near the end of its product cycle
Better options
Why switch: Better suited for rugged terrain, heavy packs, and wider feet; provides more support and a stiffer, more protective midsole.
Offers better performance on technical, rocky terrain and lacks the extended heel that can catch on rocks.
