The early production versions of this vehicle were designed with the aim of creating a more cost-effective and efficient armored fighting vehicle. The Hetzer featured a low profile, which made it harder to detect on the battlefield, and it was armed with the potent 75mm Pak 39 L/48 gun, providing excellent anti-tank capabilities. The early production models, including those assigned to StuG.Abt 1708, a Sturmgeschütz (assault gun) battalion, were among the first to see service in France in 1944. The vehicle's compact design allowed it to be more maneuverable in the dense terrain of Normandy, where it was first put into combat. In the summer of 1944, the Allied forces launched the Normandy Invasion (D-Day), and the German Army was forced to regroup and reorganize in the face of overwhelming opposition. The StuG.Abt 1708, equipped with the early production Jagdpanzer 38 "Hetzers," was deployed as part of the defense against the advancing Allied forces. The Hetzers were used in ambush tactics, taking advantage of their low profiles and powerful guns to engage the Allied tanks and infantry. These vehicles were highly effective against the lighter Allied vehicles and armored cars but faced difficulties in countering heavier tanks such as the Sherman Firefly and the British Churchill. As the Allies pushed through France and the German lines began to buckle, the StuG.Abt 1708 was pushed further back into the countryside. The Jagdpanzer 38 "Hetzer" played a significant role in slowing the Allied advance, particularly during the Battle of the Falaise Pocket. However, as the battle wore on, many Hetzers suffered mechanical failures, and the lack of spare parts led to a dwindling number of operational vehicles. The few that remained were either destroyed or captured as the Germans were forced to retreat from France, marking the end of the "Hetzer
