As a member of the Helicopter Mine Countermeasures Squadron, Tail Number 15 played a significant role in mine-clearing operations, which were crucial for ensuring the safety of naval and commercial shipping in contested waters. Its advanced systems, including sonar and mine-detecting equipment, made it a key player in ensuring free passage through dangerous maritime routes, particularly in conflict zones such as the Persian Gulf. In Operation Desert Storm, Tail Number 15 was deployed to the Persian Gulf, where it was tasked with clearing underwater mines to open up vital shipping lanes for U.S. and allied forces. The Sea Dragon's ability to detect, classify, and neutralize submerged mines allowed the Navy to protect its vessels, maintain strategic supply chains, and ensure safe passage for military operations. In addition to its mine-clearing duties, the MH-53E also supported anti-submarine warfare missions, further enhancing its significance in maritime defense during the Gulf War. Its contributions to the success of these operations cemented the Sea Dragon's role as a trusted, capable aircraft in critical combat scenarios. Throughout its service life, Tail Number 15 participated in various operations, including humanitarian missions, combat search-and-rescue (CSAR) efforts, and logistical support in regions such as Afghanistan and Iraq. Its ability to transport large payloads, conduct precise airlifts, and operate in challenging environments made it indispensable to U.S. Navy and joint-force operations. Whether conducting high-stakes combat missions or providing essential supplies to remote locations, the Sea Dragon remained an essential asset. Its robust design and advanced systems allowed it to operate effectively in harsh conditions, from arid deserts to dense urban battlefields.
