An evolution of the earlier F/A-18 Hornet, the Super Hornet features a larger airframe, increased fuel capacity, improved survivability, and advanced avionics including the APG-79 AESA radar. Capable of performing air superiority, strike, close air support, and electronic attack missions, the aircraft is designed to operate in highly contested environments while delivering precision-guided munitions with exceptional accuracy. F/A-18E aircraft of Strike Fighter Squadron 87 (VFA-87) "Golden Warriors" were deployed aboard the aircraft carrier USS George H. W. Bush in July 2017 as part of Carrier Air Wing operations in the U.S. Central Command area of responsibility. The squadron, with a lineage dating back to World War II, played a key role in supporting coalition forces during ongoing operations in the Middle East. From the deck of USS George H. W. Bush, VFA-87 conducted combat sorties, air patrols, and strike missions, demonstrating the flexibility and combat power of carrier-based aviation. During this deployment, VFA-87 participated in Operation Inherent Resolve, the multinational effort to defeat ISIS in Iraq and Syria. Super Hornets flew precision strike missions against enemy positions, infrastructure, and leadership targets, often providing close air support to ground forces engaged in urban combat. The aircraft's ability to carry a wide range of weapons, including laser-guided bombs and GPS-guided munitions, allowed pilots to engage targets with minimal collateral damage. These operations highlighted the continued importance of carrier strike groups in projecting power and maintaining global security. This 1:72 scale model captures the sleek and combat-ready appearance of a modern U.S. Navy strike fighter, making it a compelling addition for collectors interested in contemporary naval aviation and real-world combat operations.
