Designed to replace several older aircraft types, the Jaguar combined high speed, low-level penetration capability, and excellent weapons-carrying capacity in a rugged and reliable airframe. Powered by two Rolls-Royce/Turbomeca Adour turbofan engines, the Jaguar was optimized for delivering conventional and nuclear weapons while operating at very low altitudes to avoid enemy radar detection. Jaguar crews attacked airfields, armored formations, missile sites, and logistical infrastructure while demonstrating the aircraft's reliability and effectiveness in hostile environments. Jaguars also participated in operations over the Balkans and contributed to coalition missions enforcing no-fly zones over Iraq during the 1990s. The Jaguar earned a reputation as one of the RAF's most dependable strike aircraft, serving for decades before eventually being rep
